A Preview of the Alcatel 990
The Alcatel 990 is the sequel to the keyboard wielding OT-980, offering a "high end" Android experience on a budget.
Unilke its sibling there's no QWERTY keypad, the handset instead packing a 3.5 inch 320 x 480 capacitive touchscreen, complete with onscreen keys. There's also an optical trackpad onboard for easy navigation, and 3 touch-sensitive buttons.
It may only boast a 600MHz processor and Android 2.2 OS, but the Alcatel 990 still features all of Google's goodies that we all know and love. The handset arrives with Facebook and Twitter integration, access to the Android Market, mulitple customizable homescreens and a host of pre-loaded apps, including Google Search, Talk and Maps.
When it comes to media, don't let the OT-990's price fool you. It packs a 5 megapixel rear-facing autofocus camera with flash and video capture, alongside an integrated media player. Round the front there's a videocall camera, which can be put to good use once the handset is upgraded to Gingerbread.
The handset, available in Auberguine, Bluish Black and Spicy Red, also features HSDPA and WiFi connectivity, Bluetooth 3.0, a 1300mAh battery and up to 32GB of storage via microSD.
The Alcatel OT-990 will be available on both Pay As You Go and pay monthly deals once launched in Q2 2011.
