With its compact mirror styling and built-in social networking features, the Alcatel OT-810 is aimed at teenage girls and Facebook addicts
Editor's Review of the OT-810
The Alcatel OT-810, as is fairly obvious from its compact mirror-style casing, is a phone aimed at teenage girls. However, will its of connectivity ultimately put-off Facebook-hooked youths, or will its budget-price tag prove too good to miss?
While the phone's head-turning design won't appeal to everyone, it's nice to see something different on the market - and Alcatel have certainly managed that. The OT-810, thanks it its kitsch square design, measures in at a mere 70 x 70 x 16.8mm, ideal for storing in the smallest of handbags. That's not all we loved about its design, as you'll also find a cute LED matrix behind the mirrored-finish on the front-of the handset, alerting you of unread messages and missed calls.
It may be small, but you'll find a full QWERTY keypad within the rose-hued casing, its tactile keys no-doubt ideal for text happy teens and Facebook addicts. However, the phone's lack of connectivity isn't so great for updating your status and firing off messages, as you'll have to make do with 2G speeds. Still, what more can you expect for less than 50 quid?
This four-row keypad is paired with a 320 x 240 resolution screen, which measures in at a more-than-ample 2.4-inches. This can be easily navigated with the onboard direction key, providing easy access to the phone's main features. These, although not advanced, include a stereo FM radio, a media player, an included organiser and email support.
An FM radio and MP3 player may not sound that great entertainment-wise, but you'll also find a 2 megapixel camera, which manages to shoot Facebook-worthy snapshots. You'll also find 50MB of onboard storage, expandable to 16GB via microSD.
Of course, the Alcatel OT-810 is a handset for an acquired taste, and certainly won't appeal to everybody. However, if you're after a cute-looking handset with decent set of features, the 810 is unlikely to disappoint, especially given its dirt-cheap price-tag.
