HTC Legend

Editor's Review of the Legend

Reviewed by Michael Gabriel on 8th April 2010

Hailing from HTC's range of physically attractive and technologically powered mobile phones, the HTC Legend's physical characteristics and featured technologies resemble those of HTC Hero, HTC HD2, HTC Desire & HTC HD Mini. Weighing 126 grams and measuring 112 x 56.3 x 11.5 millimetres, the HTC Legend is easy to carry and does not weigh down its user. This mobile phone runs on Android 2.1 operating system.

A main attraction of this handset is its capacitive AMOLED touch-sensitive screen that measures 93.98 millimetres. This touch screen displays photos, videos, wallpapers and screensavers in 16 million colours on 320 x 480 resolution. This screen comes with a rotate feature, as well as handwriting recognition. It also has the HTC Sense feature which makes application navigation a breeze. Below the touch screen is an optical joystick for navigation purposes. Allowing users to customise this handset is a set of ringtones in WAV and MIDI formats.

As a quad band device, this mobile phone lets users enjoy wide coverage over GSM 850, GSM 900, GSM 1800, GSM 1900, HSDPA 900 and HSDPA 2100. This handset may be ideal for worldwide roaming, but its reach depends on its service provider.

This 3G HSDPA handset is expected to perform efficiently at multi-tasking. This handset allows users to enjoy going online and visiting their favourite Web sites through the built-in HTML Internet browser. The Wi-Fi technology built in this handset enables on-the-go users to go online in designated nearby hotspots. For connectivity purposes, this mobile phone comes with the miniUSB facility that supports file transfers between the HTC Legend and other handsets, printers, scanners, personal computers and laptops. Getting rid of entangled wires and cables is easy with this mobile phone's Bluetooth with A2DP support that makes file sharing possible even on a 10-metre distance between compatible gadgets. The built-in GPRS and EDGE technologies boost this handset's Internet download and file sharing rates.

Users may utilise the SMS or text and MMS or multimedia messaging services that this mobile phone supports. It also allows users to access their e-mail account, as well as check for, compose or send e-mail messages. Instant messaging is also supported by this handset. Keeping users organised on a daily basis, this mobile phone has organiser tools. It offers phone book, calendar, clock and alarm clock. This handset also has a speaker phone to provide ease when taking or making calls. It also offers the call log option that helps users track the calls they have made, missed or received. To assist users in certain locations, the HTC Legend has GPS navigation system that supports Google Maps and HTC Footprints. This handset also works as a digital compass.

A 5-Megapixel camera complete with auto focus, flash and wide screen capture option makes photo snapping an easy hobby. Photos taken may be stored in this handset's album repository. This integrated camera is also capable of video recording in 3GP format. Users may also view their footages in this handset in WMV, MPEG4, 3GP and 3G2 formats. A music player that supports MP3, WMA, WAV, AAC, AMR, MID, M4A and OGG makes every listening experience hassle-free. Users may also opt to listen to their favourite FM radio station without having to grab a radio. Moreover, this handset supports games that are downloaded from the Internet.

With 512 Megabytes of Read Only Memory and 384 Megabytes of Random Access Memory, users can store their contacts, photos and videos on this handset. This internal storage capacity is expandable to up to 32 Gigabytes using a microSD memory card. This mobile phone offers 8.1 hours of talk time, as well as 440 hours of standby time on fully loaded battery.

Unhappy users contend that the matte aluminum finish of this mobile phone makes it prone to scratches. Happy users, on the other hand, are impressed of the HTC Legend's speed when its user interface is being navigated. Others also like this handset for offering good call quality.
