Huawei's first quad-core phone claims to be the fastest in the world, and features a 4.5-inch HD screen, Android 4.0 and a long-lasting 1800mAh battery
A Preview of the Huawei Ascend D Quad
As Huawei was the first smartphone-maker to take to the stage at Mobile World Congress, the Huawei Ascend D Quad is technically the world's first quad-core smartphone. That's not all its got under its belt either, as it's also promising to be the world's fastest.
That's thanks to Huawei's own K3V2 1.2GHz quad-core chipset, which given the Chinese firm's big claims, is supposedly speedier than Nvidia's Tegra 3. Its running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich too, which three capacitive shortcut buttons. These sit below the handset's 4.5-inch 720p display, with a 32-bit true colour graphic processor. This all squeezes within the handset's skinny casing, which measures in at just 8.9mm thick.
The rest of the phone's specs are just as impressive. You'll find an 8 megapixel BSI camera sitting on its rear, alongside 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera and the ability to record 1080p HD video at 35,004 frames per second. Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound is also present on the D Quad, as well as Audience earSmart voice technology, which means - according to Huawei - you'll get clearer call quality than on the iPhone 4S or Galaxy Nexus.
The handset may be billed as the world's fastest smartphone, but that's not to say it's going to drain your battery life. There's a 1800mAh battery onboard, which Huawei claims offers-up 30 percent more juice than your average smartphone. The phone will also launch alongside the similarly-specced D Quad XL, which will pack an even more impressive 2500mAh juice box and 1.5GHz quad-core CPU.
The Huawei Ascend D Quad will be available in the UK from April, although exact release date details are still TBC.
A full review will be published here once the phone has been released.
