Huawei Ascend G 300 Preview

Huawei Ascend G 300

The Huawei Ascend G 300, announced at Mobile World Congress 2012, is a far departure from the Chinese firm's 'D Quad' smartphone, pairing a mid-range feature set with a cheap and cheerful price-tag.

It may be targeting budget-minded customers, but you wouldn't know that on first impressions. The Ascend G 300 touts a decent 4-inch WVGA (480 x 800) capacitive touchscreen, housed within its svelte 10.5mm svelte metal-clad casing which gives the phone a premium feel. This display comes skinned in Android 2.3 Gingerbread - complete with a few Huawei tweaks on top - with a bump to ICS no doubt on the cards

Powered by a 1GHz single-core processor - a far cry from the D Quad's 1.5GHz quad-core chipset - the G 300 also features a reasonable 5 megapixel rear-facing camera, complete with autofocus and LED flash. There's also up to 32GB of expandable storage, HSDPA and WiFi internet connectivity, and all of the usual pre-installed goods (Gmail, customisable home screens, access to the Android Market).

The Huawei Ascend G 300 will make its debut on Vodafone UK, although availability details are still to be confirmed.
