Editor's Review of the G7010

Reviewed by on 30th July 2011

The Huawei G7010 is a decieving device. On first impressions it looks like a relatively high-end device, although it's a whole different story once you get it up and running. Still, that's reflected in the handset's bargain price-tag, so how does it stack-up within the 'cheap' phone market?

Design-wise, the Huawei G7010 is a slick-looking handset. It measures in at a svelte 10.9mm thick, and sports a glossy black frontage with a matte rubberized back panel. This makes it super-comfortable to hold, which is further aided by its teeny 100g weight.

Within its casing - which is available in Black, Pink or White flavours - sits a 2.8-inch (240 x 320) touchscreen. Sadly, it has a resistive display, which takes a fair bit of force to get it to respond. Still, this is something that we you would get used to, and it's completely understandable when looking at its price-tag.

Unlike most of today's touchscreen phones, the Huawei G7010 doesn't run Android. However, the simplified UI proved surprisingly functional, and even offers updates from Facebook and Twitter. You'll also find one-touch access to Email, games and the built-in web browser. You probably won't be using this often, though, as the handset's lacking in 3G and WiFi, so loading up pages can be slow and painful.

Media-wise, the handset sports a 1.3 megapixel rear-facing camera. Although this sounds poor compared to today's standards, it's a nice addition to an other-wise 'cheap' feature phone.

There's also a built-in media player with FM radio, up to 4GB of expandable memory, and a decent 1100mAh battery.

It's hard to compare the Huawei G7010 to even the cheapest of Android phones, due to its resistive touchscreen and lack of connectivity. Still, for cash strapped youngers it gets the job done, but don't let the handset's high-end look fool you.
