LG's range of mobile phones are made by LG Electronics, the second largest electronics manufacturer in South Korea. The company began in 1958 through the merger of two Korean tech companies, Lucky and Goldstar, and started out by selling consumer goods. They went on to become a technology innovator in consumer electronics, household appliances and mobile communications, and are now one of the world's largest producers of LCD displays and digital media.
LG Electronics have been producing mobile phones since 1996, and in Q3 2010, LG accounted for 6.6% of global mobile sales in Q3 2010, making them the world's third largest handset maker behind Nokia and Samsung.
LG's mobile arm was a leader in the implementation of 3G technology, with an LG handset being used to demonstrate the world's first WCDMA video call on a phone at the 2002 World Cup.
Having previously focussed on their proprietary operating system, LG released their first Android handset in the UK in November 2009 with the LG GW620. October 2010 saw the release of their first Windows Phone 7 handset in the UK, otherwise known as the LG Optimus 7.
