Editor's Review of the EGO Wi-Fi
The LG Ego Wi-Fi is the latest budget handset from Korean firm, offering a cut-price alternative to the LG Optimus Me.
Sporting a similar form factor to the LG Cookie Style, the modestly named 'Ego Wi-Fi' sports an identically-sized 2.8-inch LCD touchscreen. This offers slick navigation around LG's simplified UI, which comes complete with integrated Facebook and Twitter apps.
According to Vodafone, who outed the handset, it also comes packing a QWERTY keypad - "just like the one on your computer". This is a pretty amazing feat for a phone that measures a mere 12mm thick and weighs just 86 grams. This gives the Ego the perfect edge in a market full of "networking focussed" budget mobiles, and makes bashing out emails super-speedy.
Another impressive feature is the handset's connectivity, which, obviously, includes WiFi speeds. This saves you eating into your data allowance, and enables you to easily connect to WiFi hotspots across the UK. It also allows for lightening-fast Facebook updating, and means you can quickly browse the web using the included HTML browser.
Media-wise, the LG Ego sports a fairly-basic 2 megapixel camera (without flash), capable of capturing low-res footage. There's also a built-in MP3 player, coupled with a handy FM radio. It may pack a mere 50MB of storage, but LG chucks in a 4GB microSD card, which should be ample for storing your tunes.
It may be cheap, but its specs don't finish there. There's also Bluetooth connectivity, microUSB connectivity, and up to 3 hours of talk-time on a single charge.
The LG Ego Wi-Fi is by no means the highest-spec handset on the market, and its lack of 3G speeds and a decent camera are pretty disappointing. Still, considering its price tag, it could be the perfect handset for those looking for a compact, fuss-free handset, and for those who want to stay online without coughing up for data charges.
