Editor's Review of the Orsay
The LG Orsay, also dubbed the KC550, is a sleek handset, featuring a glossy black casing complete with chrome edges. It's pocket friendly too, measuring in at just 96.9 x 51.4 x 14.9mm, and with a weight of 110g.
Its glossy casing houses a 2.4 inch TFT display, alongside a slide out alphanumeric keypad for quick and easy messaging. The display is fairly vibrant with a pixel resolution of 240 x 230, and offers a selection of wallpapers to liven up the otherwise dull user interface, which offers your standard organisational widgets.
The mobile phone supports SMS, EMS, MMS, video MMS and email, so you will never be stuck when trying to get in touch with friends and family. With well spaced keys and T9 predictive text onboard, sending messages on this LG handset is an absolute breeze.
An unexpected feature of the KC550 Orsay is its document support, allowing you to view and edit a multitude of files while on the go, including Excel spreadsheets, Word documents and Powerpoint presentations. It can often prove a little difficult on the compact display, but its a nice little touch, ideal for business users.
The most impressive of the Orsay's features it its 5 megapixel camera, which is a high quality sensor for an affordable mobile. The snapper also comes complete with LED flash, autofocus and Schneider-Kreuznach optics, which together manage to produce images of an excellent quality. With its built in photo editing tools, any poor images can be tweaked. The camera is also capable of recording video, which can be done in either landscape or portrait mode thanks to the built in accelerometer.
With such a great camera, we were a little put off but the handset's lack of 3G and WiFi connectivity. Still, for it's low price, such high-speeds cannot be expected. With GPRS and EDGE connectivity onboard, you're still able to access the web, although download speeds can sometimes be frustrating.
Other entertainment features on the LG Orsay include integrated Java gaming with motion sensor, a built in music and video player and an FM radio. The proprietary speakers are nothing to shout home about, but the sound can be boosted with a set of headphones.
Although only offering an internal memory of 12MB, this can be expanded up to a reasonable 4GB via microSD.
It may lack in Internet connectivity, but LG have managed to pack everything else into this compact smartie. With such an affordable price tag you can't go wrong, and it's sure to keep you entertained at all times.
