A Preview of the LG Optimus Sol
The LG Optimus Sol is the latest cut-price addition to LG's Android line-up, and the world's cheapest 1GHz Android phone with an AMOLED display.
As its name suggests, the Optimus Sol ('Sun' in Spanish) boasts excellent visibility in direct sunlight. That's thanks to its 3.8-inch (480 x 800) 'Ultra AMOLED' display, which according to LG, is a 'high clarity content easy to see even in bright and sunny conditions.'
That's not the only neat feature the Optimus Sol touts. There's also with an all-new power management system onboard, dubbed Dark UI, which gives the Sol a 20-30 percent boost in battery life.
The phone itself comes powered by a 1GHz Snapdragon chipset, coupled with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) OS. This comes skinned in LG's Optimus UI 2.0, the same as found on the Optimus 2X, offering one-touch access to social networking features.
Media-wise, you'll find a 5 megapixel rear-facing camera, capable of shooting non-HD VGA resolution footage. There's also a built-in media player with FM radio, up to 32GB of expandable memory, and all of the usual Android goodies.
On the connectivity front, expect DLNA, Bluetooth, HSDPA and WiFi, but no NFC. However, the Sol's official specifications says that an NFC Model is separate, suggesting one is coming soon.
There's no exact word on the handset's pricing or release date, but its been given a European released date of mid-September 2011.
A full review will be published here once the phone has been released.
