A Preview of the Motorola FIRE XT

5th August 2011

The Motorola FIRE XT - previously leaked as the Domino+ - is the latest addition to Moto's Android line-up.

Acting as the fully-touchscreen brother to the BlackBerry-style FIRE, it touts a 3.5-inch HVGA touchscreen, dressed in Motorola's Switch UI. Like RIM's BlackBerry Balance feature, this enables to switch between personal and work-centric modes.

It may be a mid-range addition to the company's portfolio, but it arrives running the latest version of Google's OS - Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). This is paired with an 800MHz processor, and equips the smartphone with all the usual Google goodies (Search, Gmail, Android Market).

On the rear of the handset you'll find a 5 megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash, capable of shooting video footage. There's also a VGA camera on the front of the smartphone for video-calling, or for using as a makeshift mirror.

To keep you entertained, there's also HSDPA and WiFi connectivity, a built-in media player with FM radio, and 512MB of internal memory, expandable to 32GB via microSD.

Known as the Motorola XT531 in China, the firm also claims the handset boasts the 'best-in-class battery life'. The juice-box weighs in at a hefty 1540 mAh, promising up to 8 hours of constant talk-time.

The Motorola FIRE XT will be available in Europe at some-point this autumn, although its pricing and release date is still to be confirmed.

A full review will be published here once the phone has been released.
