A Preview of the Motorola Xoom 2
As its name suggests, the Xoom 2 is Motorola's second shot at the Android tablet market, following the original Xoom's disappointing sales figures.
Like the original, the Motorola Xoom 2 touts a 10.1-inch capacitive screen, which Moto is promising boasts a "HD resolution". There's no word on specifics just yet, but it has been confirmed that the screen comes equipped with a splash guard coasting, and special flattened edges for easier holding.
Unfortunately, the Xoom 2 doesn't arrive running Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), instead opting for Android 3.2 (Honeycomb). However, Motorola has confirmed that an update is coming, so the slate will soon be upgraded to support Android Beam NFC and Face Unlock functionality.
Under the hood you'll also find a speedy 1.2GHz dual-core processor, despite the tablet's teeny 253.9 x 173.6 x 8.8 dimensions. There's also 16GB of built-in memory and WiFi connectivity.
On the media-front, expect to find a 5 megapixel rear-facing HD camera, a 1.3 megapixel webcam, and all of the usual pre-loaded Google goodies.
The Motorola Xoom 2 will be available in the UK from mid-November, although the tablet's pricing is still to be confirmed.
A full review will be published here once the phone has been released.
