About The O2 Network

O2, headquartered in Berkshire, is owned by Telefonica Europe plc, and currently stand as the second largest telecommunications company in the UK behind Everything Everywhere. The company originally launched as BT Cellnet Limited, which was rebranded as "O2" on May 1st 2002.

O2 is the leader in non-voice services in the UK, including text, media messaging, games, music and video, as well as data connections via GPRS, HSDPA, 3G and WLAN. On 22 June 2000, BT Cellnet famously launched the first GPRS network in England.

In 2003, O2 and Tesco launched Tesco Mobile, a joint service which would sell Tesco branded mobile services in Tesco stores across the UK, using O2's technology and network. Tesco Mobile is the UK's second mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) and operate using O2's infrastructure.

O2 are the sponsor of The O2 Arena in North Greenwhich, which launched in 2007 as a transformation and rebranding of the Millenium Dome. They now offer their mobile customers priority tickets to the venue up to 48 hours before they are released to the general public.
