About The Virgin Network

Virgin Mobile UK, a subsidiary of Virgin Media, was launched as the UK's first virtual mobile network operator. Being a virtual operator, Virgin Mobile does not maintain its own network, and instead uses the existing network of T-Mobile. In Q4 2009, Virgin Mobile held 5.7% of the marketshare, just ahead of Tesco Mobile.

Virgin Mobile was launched as a private joint venture between One2One (later T-Mobile) and the Virgin Group in 1999. On April 4th 2006, the company was bought by NTL:Telewest, who went on to rebrand Virgin Mobile's services under the Virgin Media name in February 2007. This created the world's first "quadruple" play media company, bringing together TV, Internet, mobile phone and landline phone services.

Virgin Mobile provide mobile broadband with speeds of up to 7.2Mbps and allowances of 1GB to 3GB depending on the chosen package, alongside both Pay As You Go and pay monthly mobile packages.

To date, Virgin Media is the largest Virgin branded company in the world, with almost ten million customers and 13,000 employees across the UK.
