Aside from launching numerous tablets at their global press conference in New York, Acer took some time out to announce an incoming smartphone/tablet hybrid, although have failed to give it a name.
Acer describe the device as “100% smartphone, 100% tablet”, with its 4.8 inch touchscreen display taking it into Dell Streak territory, along with its chunky 141.7 x 64 x 13.3mm dimensions. However, it manages to outdo Dell‘s hybrid with its 1024 x 480 pixel resolution and 21:9 ratio display.
The handset will be powered by Android, although Acer failed to mention which version of Google’s OS it will be sporting. It’s likely to be the upcoming Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), with its 2 megapixel videocall camera proving a bit of a giveaway.
Other specs include a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 3G and WiFi connectivity, an 8 megapixel camera with single LED flash and DLNA and HDMI connectivity for sharing your media with other compatible devices. The handset will also offer a 6 axis gyroscope, as seen on the iPhone 4, which looks set to take Android gaming to a whole new level.
This unnamed device will be hitting shelves in April 2011, although its pricing is yet to be confirmed. TechRadar claim it will land as the Acer River, so we’ll keep our eyes peeled.
