Today at CES, LG announced the latest addition to its Android line-up, the Optimus Black.
Measuring in at just 9.2mm at its thickest and tapering to just 6mm, the LG Optimus Black is being billed as the “world’s thinnest smartphone”. It is also the first handset to sport a NOVA display, which has been designed to be the clearest and most readable among mobile displays, offering 700 nits of brightness for good visibility both indoors and outdoors. While offering a “natural” image, LG’s new NOVA display will also reduce power consumption by 50 percent when compared to a conventional LCD screen.
The LG Optimus Black will also feature:
- Android 2.2 OS (upgradeable to Gingerbread)
- LG Optimus UI 2.0 with Gesture UI
- A 2 megapixel front-facing camera
- Rear-facing camera with 1080p HD video capture
- WiFi Direct
- 1500mAh battery
- Up to 32GB of storage via microSD
- 109g weight
Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company said: “The LG Optimus Black reflects our core strengths of advanced technology, in both display and design, offering the world’s brightest screen and the world’s slimmest design in an attractive and smart package.”
No official pricing or release date has yet been announced, although the LG Optimus Black is expected to launch globally in the first half of 2011.
