Motorola Atrix confirmed for May UK release

January 14th, 2011

Motorola AtrixJust days after launching at CES 2011, the Motorola Atrix has been given an UK release date of May 2011.

Speaking to DialToSave, a contact at Mobiles.co.uk, a subsidiary of the Carphone Warehouse, commented that Motorola‘s dual-core smartphone is expected to be available from May 2011, well within the manufacturer’s Q2 2011 timeframe. Once available, the handset is expected to launch on deals with Orange UK, who scored exclusivity on the upcoming handset.

Labelled “the world’s most powerful smartphone”, the Motorola Atrix looks set to be a hit once available. The handset features NVIDIA’s dual-core Tegra 2 processor, Android 2.2 OS, a 4 inch 960 x 540 HD display, a 5 megapixel camera with HD video capture, 1080p video playback, HSDPA and WiFi connectivity, up to 32GB of storage and a huge 1930mAh battery.

That’s not all, however. Motorola’s latest smartphone also comes with optional docking stations. Its Laptop Dock turns it into a mobile computer, while the HD Multimedia Dock lets you use the device as an all-round media hub.

Excited? Yep, so are we.

Really pissed off my dream phone is only on bloody orange!!! I only buy unlocked phones as I hate the carrier crapware, delays in OS updates and feeling restricted to a single network. f**k orange!!! I’ll have to look elsewhere.

Nick – someone like Carphone Warehouse do NOT install the crappy Orange software… I don’t know if the other “independant” companies do this also….. I won’t be getting it from orange…

No news just yet, Orange is the only UK network to confirm its support. We’ll keep you posted :)

And what about the SIM-free version of this phone? Will that be available from May as well in the UK? Or Orange has a monopoloy for a certain time? Thanks.

The Orange network won’t be able to handle even a 1/4 of what this phone can do. What a waste.
