Sony Ericsson has began rolling out an Android update in Japan, enabling multi-touch on its range of Xperia X10 handsets.
The update, available to customers on Japanese network NTT DoCoMo, will finally bring multi-touch gestures to the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, X10 Mini and the QWERTY-sporting X10 Mini Pro.
Once the OTA update is installed, it’s likely that the handset will be limited to pinch to zoom gestures, with support for multi-touch gaming and third party apps looking unlikely. According to Sony Ericsson, this is because the “digitizer in the X10 is not perfect when it comes to multi-touch”.
Although Sony Ericsson has admitted that multi-touch on the handsets “won’t be perfect”, it’s sure to cheer up users of the X10 series who have recently found out that their handsets won’t be upgraded past Android 2.1. Still, we’re pretty sure that users would prefer a tasty Gingerbread-flavoured treat rather than limited pinch to zoom gestures.
