Sony Ericsson has just announced that the pinch-to-zoom update for its Xperia X10 handset will begin rolling out today, alongside a minor update for the Xperia X8.
The incoming update will finally bring multi-touch to the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, enabling pinch-to-zoom gestures for mobile internet and Google Maps. It’s not all good news however, as due to the digitizer in the handset, support won’t be available for third party apps and gaming.
Still, that’s not all the OTA update has on offer, as users of the X10 will also be treated to additional language support, including; Arabia, Farsi, Thai and Hebrew. Although “network dependant”, some handsets will also receive an updated version of Moxier, the ability to “trim” videos, MMS support for sending videos and minor changes to Mediascape with access to “Now Playing” in the top right corner.
For the Xperia X8, X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro, the update will bring ANT+ support in the chipset, meaning you can use your Sony Ericsson handset with a large number of commercial health and fitness products.
According to Sony Ericsson’s official blog, “The roll-out should start from now for the X10 and within a week or so for the other products but just as last time it will be a gradual roll-out where each and every kit needs different approvals before it can be released.”
No word on whether the update is US specific, but we’ve contacted Sony Ericsson for confirmation. We’ll keep you posted!
