HTC Wildfire won’t get update to Android 2.3, confirms Three

February 25th, 2011

HTC WildfireIt’s bad news for users of the HTC Wildfire, as Three has revealed that the budget-blower won’t be getting updated to Android 2.3 (Gingerbread).

The bad news was broken via Twitter, with the UK network confirming that the “Wildfire will not be getting Gingerbread, but the Wildfire S that is expected to launch on Three in May will.” This is a low blow for users of the HTC smartphone, who will be stuck on Android 2.2 perpetually.

Unlike users of the HTC Desire series, adopters of the Wildfire will miss out on Gingerbread’s host of new features, including its refined UI, faster keyboard, improved power management and support for dual-core optimized applications.

It’s not all bad news though, as early patron’s of the HTC Wildfire may soon be nearing the end of their contract. In which case, users can update to the Android-toting HTC Wildfire S, which with a SIM free price tag of £270, looks set to be just as affordable as its younger Gingerbread-less sibling.
