Vodafone releases Android 2.1 for X10 Mini & Mini Pro

March 1st, 2011

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini ProVodafone has finally released Android 2.1 for its Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini and Mini Pro customers, 5 months behind its original schedule.

Despite earlier hopes for an October release, the UK network has only just began rolling out the update to users of Sony Ericsson‘s miniature Android handsets. No explanation for the reasoning behind the hold-up, but word has it, the upgrade is now hitting X10 Mini and Mini Pro handsets without any issues.

It’s not an over-the-air (OTA) update, and users must instead connect their handsets to Sony Ericsson’s PC Companion tool to get a taste of Eclair. The PC software will notify users when the update is available, and it’s expected to hit all handsets within the next few weeks.

It may not be the upgrade to Froyo that users are pining for, but once Android 2.1 is installed, the X10 Mini and Mini Pro will be treated to improved Bluetooth functionality with support for sending pictures, a new backup and restore application, revamped Facebook synchronisation and improved message content handling.

This will be the last Android update for users of Sony Ericsson’s Xperia X10 Mini and Mini Pro handsets, as the company recently announced that its X10 range won’t be upgraded beyond Android 2.1.
