We’ve been going through some of our data here at DialToSave of what deals people are searching for and clicking on. We’ve found something really interesting about the tariffs clicked on last month by users making purchases or requesting further information from the retailer.
More than half of the clicks were for deals where the tariff had 300 minutes per month or less. That’s largely down to the fact that the 300 minute tariffs attracted 49% of the clicks from all the deals in our database. On average that allows for just 10 minutes of phone calls a day.
An increasing number of tariffs, even those with as little as 50 inclusive minutes, offer unlimited text messaging. 71% of clicks last month were for deals with unlimited text messages. The vast majority of those included at least 500MB of internet data. What we are seeing here are statistics that confirm that consumers are less interested in inclusive minutes, because of the increased reliance on text messaging and internet data for smartphones.
Although we don’t have specific statistics on it, we are of the opinion that there has been an increasing trend for people to have conversations over multiple text messages instead of making a phone call. In addition, we know that with the smartphone’s increasing array of features and apps, making phone calls has become just one of many features and that internet data allowances are becoming more important for the majority of time that the average consumer is using their mobile phone.
