Sony Ericsson outs Xperia mini and Xperia mini pro handsets

May 5th, 2011

Sony Ericsson Xperia MiniSony Ericsson has prematurely outed the sequel to its Xperia X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro handsets, having posted a bunch of images on its official UK press site.

Although nothing is confirmed and the image links are broken, the two handsets -dubbed the Xperia mini and Xperia mini pro – have been subject to rumours for a number of months.

As you’d expect, the Sony Ericsson Xperia mini will be the sequel to its X10 counterpart, and will hopefully arrive running Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). We can also expect it to sport a 3-inch touchscreen, Sony’s TimeScape UI and a rear-facing camera with HD smarts.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia mini pro on the other hand, has been leaked in much more detail. Previously labelled the “X10 Mini Pro II“, it’ll arrive running Gingerbread, coupled with a 1GHz Snapdragon QSD8650 processor. We can also expect to see a 3-inch 230 x 480 capacitive touchscreen, a slide-out QWERTY keypad, a 5 megapixel rear facing with LED flash and 720p HD capture, a front-facing webcam, and 512MB of built-in storage with microSD expansion.

As revealed by Sony Ericsson’s slip-up, both handsets will launch in a number of colours, including black, pink and white. However, the handsets’ pricing and release date still remains a mystery.

Update: Just moments after writing, Sony Ericsson has officially announced both handsets, and is touting the Xperia mini as the “world’s smallest HD video recording smartphone”. Just as expected, both handsets will feature 1GHz processors, 3-inch Reality Display touchscreens, Android 2.3 OS and four different colour variants. The Xperia mini will be available from August, while the Xperia mini pro won’t be arriving until Q3.
