They explained: “We can confirm that the W8 Walkman phone will be available in China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. The Walkman™ branding and the legacy from previous Walkman™ phones is very strong in these particular markets and therefore we decided to launch the phone in these markets.”
With ‘Walkman’ phones not so big in the UK, it seems this branding could be a thing of the past, seemingly replaced with the Xperia line-up. However, punters in Blighty will be treated to the lower-spec Mix Walkman in Q3 2011, although its budget features and lack of Android make its not-quite-as-appealing as its older brother.
Still, it does arrive touting all the usual music smarts, including a karaoke feature and the all-new Zappin key, which’ll give you a 4-second preview of the next song’s chorus. Other specs include a 3.2-inch touchscreen, a 3.2 megapixel rear-facing camera, WiFi connectivity and up to 32GB of storage via microSD.
