Although not as cheap as rivals O2, Vodafone is offering the handset for free from £26 per month on a 2 year contract. As well as a free Xperia Ray smartphone, this will get you 300 minutes, unlimited texts and 500MB of mobile data, with 1GB BT Openzone Wi-Fi access thrown in for good measure. The phone’s not yet available on Pay As You Go, although O2 have priced it at £299.
At present, Vodafone is only offering the Gold Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray (right), which we last week got some hands-on time with. We were pretty impressed with the pint-sized handset, which manages to squeeze a 3.3-inch Reality Display and a 1GHz processor into its streamlined 9.4mm-thick chassis.
Running Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), the screen comes dressed in Sony Ericsson‘s custom UI, complete with the usual customizable homescreens and Facebook Inside Xperia integration. This enables you to sync your phonebook with your Facebook contacts, and delivers tighter integration with the built-in gallery app and media player.
Adopters of the SE Xperia Ray can also look forward an 8.1 megapixel primary camera with 720p HD video, a forward-facing videocall camera, and up to 32GB of expandable memory.
