HTC has joined forces with Dropbox, in a move which will give adopters of the firm’s latest smartphones 5GB of free cloud storage.
Speaking to Pocket-lint, the Taiwanese smartphone-maker confirmed that adopters of the company’s incoming HTC Sense 3.5 handsets, such as the “female only” HTC Rhyme, will get a bonus 3GB of free Dropbox storage, in addition to the 2GB the service already offers.
This is exciting news for adopters of HTC’s incoming Android line-up, who will be able to save files and photos on their phone and have them automatically synced to any other device equipped with Dropbox – be it their home computer or Android tablet.
However, it’s not such good news for those looking to buy the HTC Titan or HTC Radar, as HTC says the service is unlikely to be extending to Windows Phone smartphones. Windows Phone 7 already has a very compelling offer from Skydrive powered by Microsoft baked into the OS, said the HTC spokesperson, which offers customers a much more generous 25GB storage.
It’s still unclear whether users HTC Sense 3.0 or older will be getting the firm’s newly-confirmed Dropbox features, but we’ve been in touch with HTC for further information.
