Virgin Media has joined forces with Everything Everywhere to let its mobile customers use the Orange’s mobile network, the UK company has confirmed.
As an Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) Virgin’s mobile customers already use T-Mobile’s network. Earlier this year T-Mobile joined forces with Orange to create Everything Everywhere, so it was only a matter of time before Virgin Media customers would benefit from coverage on both networks.
“We already cover 99 percent of the UK population, and now you can also use your mobile on the Orange network, so you’ll be able to stay in touch here, there and pretty much everywhere”, Virgin explains.
According to the network, use of Orange’s network will be available to all customers at no extra cost, regardless of what contract you’re on. The network name will be ‘Virgin’ when on Virgin Media’s network and ‘virgin’ when using Orange’s signal. Virgin is also promising that customers will be able to use both networks “before the end of 2011″.
Graeme Oxby, Virgin Media’s executive director of home phone and mobile, said: “Virgin Media customers already enjoy the UK’s fastest broadband and the most advanced TV services, now they’ll benefit from enhanced mobile coverage too.”
