Facebook Messenger app lands on BlackBerry

Facebook Messenger for BlackBerryFacebook Messenger is now available for BlackBerry handsets, the social network today announced, giving users a viable alternative to BlackBerry Messenger.

The standalone app, already available on Android and iOS, enables users to quickly chat with both Facebook friends and phone-book contacts. Facebook Messenger also offers a bunch of additional features, including one-click access to messages, the option to to create group chats, and the ability to share your location and photos.

“We’re excited to announce an update to Facebook Messenger. In this version, we’ve included a bunch of new features and performance improvements designed to make your messaging experience even better,” said Lucy Zhang, software engineer at Facebook.

“Now you can see who’s online and who’s on mobile, and know when the other person is typing. It’s also easier to send messages to the people you message most.”

As well as a brand-new BlackBerry application, Facebook has also added support for 22 new languages for its Android app, and 12 new languages for iPhone users.

Facebook Messenger is available to download for free from the BlackBerry App World.
