Quad-core HTC tablet tipped for MWC reveal

November 14th, 2011

HTC FlyerHTC is reportedly plotting to launch its debut quad-core Tegra 3 tablet at February’s Mobile World Congress, alongside the upcoming Edge and Ville smartphones.

Industry paper Digitimes states that HTC will launch an “Android-based tablet PC running on a quad-core CPU” at next year’s MWC, which will take place between February 27 and March 1. Quoting Chinese-daily ‘Commercial Times’, the report adds that HTC will also launch two new smartphones – likely to be the mooted HTC Edge and HTC Ville.

Although little is known about the upcoming tablet, this isn’t the first we’ve heard of the Edge and Ville smartphones. Like the tablet, the so-called HTC Edge will be Tegra 3-based, and it’ll run on Google’s Android 4.0 (ICS software). We’re also expecting to see a Titan-esque 4.7-inch HD screen dressed in HTC Sense 4.0, an 8 megapixel primary camera, Beats Audio, and 32GB of included memory.

The HTC Ville is unlikely to impress as much as its sibling, as it’ll supposedly arrive touting a lesser 1.5GHz dual-core processor. However, it’ll also come equipped with the latest version of Android software, 1080p HD video, HSDPA+ connectivity, and a 1650mAh battery. Also, if the rumours are anything to go by, the Ville will measure in at less than 8mm thick.

We’ll bring you more details as soon we get them.
