Sony Xperia S confirmed for O2 and Three

Sony Xperia SThe newly-announced Sony Xperia S has promptly been confirmed for O2 and Three, ahead of its release in Q1 2012.

O2 took to Twitter to announce the good news, saying: “Very much liking the look of the Xperia S from Sony – it’ll be coming to us later this year! More details coming soon,” whereas Three took a more official approach, confirming the news via a press release.

Sylvia Chind, head of handsets at the network said: “The Sony Xperia S brings the best HD technology straight into the palm of your hand. Plus, with an impressive 12 megapixel camera, it’s perfect for fast-fingered photographers who want to upload images straight onto Facebook making the most of Three’s fast 3G network.”

Announced at CES in Las Vegas, the Xperia S is the first Sony branded smartphone, alongside the US-only Xperia Ion. Packing a 4.3-inch HD screen and a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, its much-more impressively specced than its Ericsson-branded siblings. However, it still arrives running Android 2.3 Gingerbread, but a bump to ICS is scheduled during Q2 2011.

Other features of the Xperia S include a 12 megapixel camera with 1080p video and Exmor R sensor, a front-facing videocall camera, HD sharing through DLNA and HDMI, 32GB of included memory and integrated NFC technology.
