The Samsung Galaxy Note has received its first Android software update, and although it doesn’t bring a taste Ice Cream Sandwich to the device, it does equip the Note with an updated keyboard.
The updated onscreen QWERTY promises to make it easier to type with one hand – despite the phone’s mammoth 5.3-inch screen space. This is thanks to the new option to scale the keyboard down to the side of the screen, enabling you to bash-out messages just using your thumb.
That’s not the only enhancements the minor bump brings to the Galaxy Note. Users will also find a modified lockscreen on their smartphone-cum-tablet, which provides a more conventional small-scale ‘radial’ lock swipe.
According to the guys at Unwired View, you’ll also find a brand-new Torch widget pre-installed on the device, the ability to set a brightness level for the browser and an updated Calendar application.
The over-the-air Android update should now be available for all unlocked European Samsung Galaxy Note handsets, with no word on network-locked models. Still, those of you touting a SIM free Galaxy Note should be able to download the 70MB update over a secure WiFi connection.
