Microsoft will officially launch Skype for Windows Phone at Mobile World Congress, “several sources” have confirmed.
This news comes via The Verge, who has heard from multiple reliable sources that Microsoft employees are now able to download a test version of Skype from the Windows Phone Marketplace – ahead of the app’s launch at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this month.
“At least one source indicated that it could launch at Mobile World Congress later this month. This all depends on Microsoft’s internal testing, but the application is said to be near complete”, the tech site explains.
Once eventually released following MWC, Windows Phone users will be able to use the Skype app – which is expected to fit in with the look and feel of Mango – to make free calls over 3G and WiFi. The official app will also allow customers to send free pictures and to make free conference calls, and we’re expecting to hear more details later this month.
We’ll bring you more details as soon as we get them.
