Samsung Galaxy S2 to get Ice Cream Sandwich on March 1st

February 10th, 2012

Samsung Galaxy S IIThe Samsung Galaxy S2 and Galaxy Note will be getting upgraded to Android Ice Cream Sandwich on the first day of March, Eldar Murtazin has ‘confirmed’ in a tweet.

The self-styled mobile insider let slip that Sammy has almost finished tweaking its TouchWiz UI to work with the software, saying: “Android 4 aka ics for sgs2 will be officially available from march 1(depends from country/operator). Update over the air or using kies.”

Of course, this March 1 date refers to network unlocked Galaxy S2 and Galaxy Note handsets, so it’s still unclear when the networks will decide to release the update. Still, it’s certainly an update worth holding-out for, as it’ll add a bunch of new features to the duo of smartphones.

Although details of Samsung’s updated TouchWiz UI are still to be confirmed, we already known that Ice Cream Sandwich will equip the phones with a re-jigged interface, complete with improved multitasking and notifications. Users can also look forward to; Android Beam NFC support, Face Unlock functionality, a faster web browser, enhanced camera features (zero shutter lag,  panorama mode, easier sharing and Instagram-esque filters) and Google’s new People application.

Expect to hear more from Samsung in the next couple of weeks.
