Matching up nicely with last week’s rumours of an early-March unveiling, Apple news site iMore has heard from “reliable sources” that Apple plans to hold its iPad launch event on Wednesday March 7. This is backed-up by comments from Loop Insight analyst Jim Dalrymple, who has also specified a March 7 launch.
The sources also add weight to the rumours that the next-gen iPad will feature a 2048 x 1536 Retina Display, a feature that is widely hoped for amongst iFans and one which could make this the best selling Apple tablet to date. iMore adds that although details about the slate’s processor are still unclear, the iPad 3 is likely to pack Apple’s yet-unannounced A6 quad-core chipset.
If that’s not enough to win you over, Apple are also reportedly planning to equip the iPad 3 with an improved GPU for enhanced gaming, an improved 8 megapixel camera with 1080p HD video, a boosted FaceTime camera, Apple’s soon-to-be-official iOS 5.1 software and integrated NFC technology. US iFans can also look forward to 4G LTE connectivity, according to the latest rumours.
Expect to hear more from Apple on this within the next couple of weeks.
