Samsung Galaxy S3The Samsung Galaxy S3 will be the first phone to feature Samsung‘s new quad-core Exynos processor, an exec at the company has reportedly confirmed.

The Korean Times quote the unnamed Samsung executive as saying that the S3 will be the first handset to pack the Exynos 4412 processor, in a bid to reduce its reliance on chip-makers Qualcomm.

“Samsung has a stronger intent to lower its dependence on Qualcomm and our technicians believe that we have made significant progress in producing logic-based chips for high-end devices, combined logic and memory chips for graphic controllers and core communication chips for Internet-enabled consumer devices”, the anonymous executive told the Korean newspaper.

“Samsung is paying huge amounts to Qualcomm in return for using its single-chip solutions in strategic digital devices, however, Qualcomm is gradually losing its edge,” he added.

If previous rumours are to be believed, this quad-core chipset will be paired with a 4.8-inch HD touchscreen, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and a reworked version of TouchWiz UI, which could boast Galaxy Note-esque stylus support. There’s also murmurs of a 12 megapixel rear-facing camera, a HD front-facing snapper, 32GB of included storage, NFC and fast HSDPA, WiFi and 4G connectivity.
