NFC is the next best thing, or so they say, so it’s unsurprising that the big phone manufacturers are jumping on the bandwagon. In this spirit, Nokia
have officially announced an NFC version of their Lumia 610, which is to be launched exclusively on Orange in the near future.
Seeing as NFC is to expected to be a technology for the masses, it makes sense that it’s been released for the relatively cheap Lumia 610.
NFC (Near-Field Communication) allows for a range of wireless activities, from music streaming, to making payments and processing tickets. Nokia have teamed up with Mastercard to help expose the technology to the broader public.
This news comes in the wake of Samsung announcing a deal with Visa whereby the Galaxy S3 will be handed out to athletes, allowing them to use the phone’s NFC technology to make payments, get taxis and access the Olympic Park.
NFC – which allows close range data transfers at speeds of up to 300Mbps – certainly looks like it’s here to stay.
Orange are yet to give a release date for the NFC Lumia 610, but we’ll keep you posted!
