O2 porn pirates to be sent reprimanding letters

May 31st, 2012

As we found out a couple of weeks ago, internet porn is a booming business and will increasingly continue to be so over the coming years. However, due to its, ahem, desirable products, it’s also a major target for video piracy.

One business that’s been suffering at the hands of internet pirates is the self-explanatory Ben Dover productions, which has been concerned about the number of customers on the O2 network who have been illegally sharing their films.

Now, the production company has won a High Court ruling that will force O2 to pass on the details of 9,124 IP addresses that have been connected with dodgy porn downloads.

Depending on the extent of the porn-peddlers’ wrongdoings, those found guilty could be  made to pay compensation of up to £700 a head, though the actual sum to be paid will be judged by each individual case.

Online piracy is a global problem that’s been particularly clamped down on since the start of the year, with sites such as Megaupload and The Pirate Bay being targeted by anti-piracy laws.

Ben Dover, however, believe that the porn industry has been particularly hard hit by piracy. Julian Becker, spokesperson for Ben Dover, had this to say:

‘Due to the nature of the way most consumers view adult content, the adult business has been affected far worse than mainstream film due to the fact that the pirates cannot replicate the cinematic experience of mainstream films.’
