When you fork out £500 odd for a smartphone, you expect the thing to be pretty damn resilient for the two years that you’re most likely aiming to keep it for. The Samsung Galaxy S3, with its Gorilla Glass 2 screen, was hyped up by its makers by being durable as well as stylish and powerful.
Yet a recent drop test video uploaded onto YouTube paints a quite different picture, as it tests out both the Galaxy S3 and the iPhone 4S in a series of drop tests. Worryingly, the S3 came off worse in more of them than Apple’s device, which itself is known to be on the fragile side.
In a basic test where the phone was dropped onto a concrete floor from ear height, the iPhone 4S suffered minor damage while the S3′s screen suffered a nasty crack. In other – more extreme – tests, the phones slid off the back of a moving car and were thrown in the air by kids. The S3 shattered in two out of three of the tests.
This doesn’t bode too well for Samsung’s device. While people will no doubt buy the phone for its inner power and smooth design, the fact that it fails quite basic stress tests could well cast doubts in many minds. Check out the video below.
