The Google Earth team have been hard at work recently, as the world-browsing app has been subjected to a few major updates. Google have already started rolling out 3D imagery for many of the world’s major cities, making pinching-and-zooming your way through a city in Earth a strangely video-game-like experience.
The latest major addition to Google Earth is the new ‘Tour Guide’ feature, which allows users to have detailed looks at city landmarks. This function is already live in the Android version of Earth, and can be accessed by dragging up the tab at the bottom of the screen.
The tour guide comes up in the form of thumbnail photos of whatever landmarks are in your current line of vision on Earth. The tour guide takes advantage of the new 3D models in earth, and Picasa and Panoramio images contributed by users.
The new features should be coming to the iOS version of Earth soon. If you’re an Android user, then you can pick up the latest version of the app here.
