Clad in solid bar-shaped design, the Nokia E55 joins the leading brand's 3G Smartphone line-up that includes the Nokia E71, the Nokia E75 and the Nokia E63. This handset measures 9.9 x 49 x 116.5 millimetres and weighs 96 grams including its rechargeable fitted battery.

This Smartphone boasts of a QVGA screen that measures 60.96 millimetres and displays 16 million colours on 320 x 240 pixels. The wide display screen can be customised to reflect personal or home and business modes to suit its user's preference. This mobile phone is highly distinctive with its compact full QWERTY keyboard,

Featuring a user interface that is easy to navigate, the Nokia E55 is powered by Symbian 9.3 operating system with Series S60 3rd edition software. It is a quad band handset that functions over GSM 850, GSM 900, GSM 1800 and GSM 1900 networks. It allows users to browse through the World Wide Web using its built-in browser with support for Nokia Mini Maps. This handset also supports WLAN Wi-Fi, allowing users to go online in nearby hotspots.

Users may transfer or share data with compatible devices like other mobile phones, laptops, personal computers and printers using this handset's USB and wireless Bluetooth options. This mobile phone is powered by GPRS and EDGE technologies, thus ensuring faster Internet download and speedier file transfer rates.

This mobile phone offers customary SMS or text and MMS or multimedia messaging services. As an Internet-able handset, it supports Yahoo IM and Windows MSN Live instant messaging. Users may also access their e-mail with attachment using this mobile phone over POP3, SMTP, IMAP4 and Mail for Exchange servers. This handset also has built-in support for Lotus Notes Traveler and Text to Speech Message Reader.

A portable assistant, this mobile phone offers organiser features such as a calendar, a phone book with images, an analogue and digital clock, an alarm clock, a calculator with advanced functionalities, a PDF viewer, a currency converter, vibration alert, notes and to-do list options. It also comes with a GPS navigation system, with support for Nokia Maps application. With its hands-free speaker phone, support for conference call, call waiting, call hold, call divert, call timer and call log options, communicating with contacts using this handset is a breeze.

The Nokia E55 has an integrated 3.2-Megapixel EDOF camera that keeps photo buffs busy. Taking quality pictures anytime is possible with this camera, given its basic 4x digital zoom, LED flash and auto focus features. In addition, it comes with extra options including a White Balance Mode, Scene Mode, Capture Mode and Colour Tone Mode, as well as Light Sensitivity selections. Making this handset an even more convenient portable snapshot device is a dedicated camera button. Moreover, this camera also supports video recording at a speed of 15 frames per second, complete with x4 video zoom, video scene mode and video colour tone features. Video playback and video streaming in 3GP, MP4, H263, H264, Flash Video, RealVideo, WMV and RV formats are also possible right on this handset's wide display screen. As a 3G HSDPA mobile phone, the Nokia E55 supports video calls through a second camera.

This handset is a thrill to use for music-loving owners with its pre-installed music player that supports MP3 and AAC audio formats. It offers an easy-to-use music search features with artist, album and genre selections, as well as album art display. This mobile phone also allows users to customise their listening experience with its equaliser, repeat, loudness and shuffle features. It offers MP4 audio recording and audio streaming. An FM Radio RDS feature also presents an alternative for users of this handset

Completing the entertainment facet of this communication gizmo is a set of games consisting of Block Cascade, Solitaire, N-Gage Application. This handset also supports downloading of games from the Internet.

This handset has 100 Megabytes of internal memory, which may be expanded through a MicroSD memory card that supports up to 16 Gigabytes. It offers 8 hours of GSM talk time, as well as 672 hours of GSM standby time.

The Nokia E55 is packed with highly advanced characteristics, but an allegedly lousy camera is a major downside, according to its unhappy users. Nevertheless, satisfied users contend that this handset's features are excellent for people who enjoy the modern life.
