About O2

O2 is known primarily as one of the UK's largest mobile operators. The brand, owned by Telefonica UK Limited, was known as Cellnet at launch in 1985.

O2 famously launched a range of phones under the Xda brand, which were Windows Mobile-powered PDA phones produced by the likes of HTC, Quanta and Erima. O2's first "digital assistant", the O2 XDA, was released in 2002, complete with a 206MHz microprocessor, a 230 x 320 colour touchscreen and a dual-band 900/1800MHz radio. Other phones included in the range include the Xda Mini, Xda IQ and the Xda Incognito.

O2 has announced that its future plans involve manufacturing Near Field Communication (NFC) technology in mobile phones in the United Kingdom, which is likely to feature on the network's high-end devices.
