Samsung may be best-known for dominating the smartphone market with its high-end Galaxy devices, but the firm also has a presence in the feature phone market, the firm's latest budget mobile being the Samsung E1230.

The E1230 is a simple as they come, ideal for those perplexed by high-end smartphone technology or for those of you looking for a cheap pay as you go phone to use as a "spare". On the spec-front, you'll find a compact, yet ample, 1.8-inch (120 x 160) display, paired with a easy-to-use alphanumeric keypad. These rubberized keys are perfect for those with clumsy figures, and allow for typing out text messages with ease and at speed.

These features come housed within the phone's surprisingly elegant chrome-edged casing, which measures in at a pocket-friendly 110.6 x 45.4 x 13.9mm. It may be made of plastic, but the handset's sleek curves and metallic-trim makes it look much-more expensive than it actually is, so there's no need to be embarassed when used on a night out.

So, you've got your screen and your keypad, what else does the E1230 have going for it? We'll be honest - not much - as the phone's stand-out features are its ability to make crystal-clear calls and its simple to use messaging features. Saying that, the Samsung-branded handset does come equipped with an FM radio and 3.5mm audio jack, perfect for listening to music while on the go. However, given the handset's measly amount of onboard memory, you won't find an included MP3 player.

This is sort-of made up for by the handset's 800mAh battery, which promised to last for over 8 and a half hours of constant talk-time, and a whopping 660 hours when left on standby.

This battery, paired with the handset's sturdy keypad and straightforward features, are the reason that the Samsung E1230 is one of the most simply, reliable feature phones available on the market today. Although not great for those after an array of built-in features, it's perfect for those who want a phone for carrying out the basics.
