This entry-level handset may be small, but it manages to pack a 3-inch touchscreen, Facebook and Twitter support and up to 16GB of memory
Editor's Review of the Tocco Lite
Manufactured by Samsung, the Tocco Lite is a handset that exudes elegance in a black casing. Slim and easy to carry, this mobile phone measures 11.9 x 104 x 53 millimetres and tips the scale at 93.5 grams. It comes from the same range of stylish handsets as the Samsung S5600. A display screen measuring 76.2 millimetres fills the front part of this mobile phone. It works on TouchWiz user interface and comes with call and navigation control keys.
The touch-sensitive screen displays picture wallpapers and other images clearly in 262,000 colours with a display resolution of 240 x 400 pixels. This touch screen also supports gesture screen lock control through which letters are assigned for instant access to applications. It also comes with handwriting recognition support that assists users during text or numeric inputs. This handset comes with polyphonic and MP3 ringtones that create a more personalised appeal to its users.
This handset offers SMS or text messaging service complete with the predictive text feature, as well as MMS or multimedia messaging service. It also allows users to read, compose and send e-mail messages without having to sit in front of a computer. Moreover, this mobile phone assists busy users with its wide range of organiser features. Its organiser tools include a calendar and a clock for scheduling or planning, as well as a calculator for quick computations. Making or receiving calls is also hassle-free with this handset's integrated speaker phone. It also comes with a call log feature to help users track their missed, dialed or received calls.
While addressing the needs of business-oriented users, the Samsung Tocco Lite can still pass for a good entertainment gadget. Users who are fond of taking pictures will appreciate this handset's integrated 3-Megapixel camera complete with flash, auto focus and smile detection imaging features for better photo captures. Users can store their photos in a built-in picture album. This powerful camera may also be used to record footages in QVGA format at a speed of 15 frames per second. This handset also allows users to view their recorded videos in MPEG4, H263 and H264 video formats.
Similarly, music-digging users will have fun listening to their favourite tracks using this mobile phone's onboard music player that plays MP3, WMA and AAC audio formats. An FM Radio support complete with RDS also allows users to enjoy their favourite tracks over the radio, while giving them access to news, music and weather information from their preferred radio stations. In addition, this mobile phone is preloaded with games in Java format for the ultimate enjoyment of users who are avid gamers.
As a quad band-supporting handset, the Samsung Tocco Lite covers the networks of GSM 850, GSM 900, GSM 1800 and GSM 1900. It allows users to access their favourite Web sites and download data from the Internet using the integrated WAP 2.0 XHTML/HTML Web browser. Similarly, sharing or transferring data in the mobile phone from or to compatible gadgets such as a laptop, a personal computer and a printer is easy through the handset's USB support. It also comes with wireless Bluetooth support with A2DP for trouble-free file sharing. This handset is equipped with GPRS and EDGE technologies, which support speedier transfer and download rates.
This handset has the capacity to store 50 Megabytes worth of contacts, photos, videos and other data. It can also expand its memory using a MicroSD memory card to accommodate up to 8 Gigabytes of files. When fully charged, this mobile phone's battery offers 8 hours of talk time, and stays on standby mode for 350 hours.
Discontented users however say that this handset's integrated camera is average-performing. They also point out the handset's lack of Wi-Fi support which would have been useful for on-the-go users. Some people also find the touch screen to be occasionally unresponsive.
On the other hand, individuals who are pleased with the performance of the Samsung Tocco Lite applaud the touch screen's wide size, and the music player features. They also appreciate the phone book feature that comes with a slider which eliminates sweeping through an entire list of contacts. Moreover, the stylish and modern look of this handset and its sharp colour display are a definite plus, according to satisfied users.
