About Sonim
Sonim, formally known as Sonim technologies, is an American mobile phone manufacturer based in San Mateo, California. The firm, which was founded in August 1999, currently employees over 150 staff worldwide, across 15 locations including London, Stockholm and Madrid.
Sonim is best known for developing "rugged" devices, ideal for outdoors types and those who work on construction sites. The Sonim XP1, for example, is a GSM phone with an IP-54 certification, which means it's resistant against water and dust. The manufacturer also developed the popular JCB-branded Toughphone range, which are certified to IP-54 and MIL-STD-810 standards.
The company has won a range of awards for its tough phones too, including Emerging Star and TiEcon in 2005, alongside a Guinness World Record for the world's toughest phone.
