About Sony Ericsson
Sony Ericsson was a established on October 1 2001, as a joint venture between Japanese electronics company Sony Corporation and the Swedish telecommunications company Ericsson. The company's global management is based in Hammersmith, London, and they are the 6th largest mobile phone manufacturer in the world, boasting a 2.5% marketshare in Q3 2010.
Sony Ericsson began to gain momentum in 2003, with the release of one of the world's first entry level camera phones, the T601. They went on to launch their Walkman range of music mobiles and Cyber-shot camera phones in 2005 and 2006 respectively, which saw the debut of the W800i, the first Walkman phone capable of 30 hours of music playback.
Sony Ericsson launched the GreenHeart range of mobile phones in 2009, heralded by the Sony Ericsson J105i Naite and C901. These handsets are focussed on being eco friendly, and have earned the company multiple awards.
Having worked with Symbian and their proprietary OS, Sony Ericsson launched their first Android-equipped handset in 2010, the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10, which was quickly followed by the X10 Mini and X10 Pro. Sony Ericsson are also planning to release the Android based Sony Playstation handset, and have confirmed they will be adopting Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 platform in the coming months.
