Sony Ericsson K770i

Editor's Review of the K770i

As a stylish and functional handset, the K770i will definitely live up to your expectations. Often dubbed the younger sibling of Sony Ericsson's K800i, this handset carries similar features, although tweaks have been made to improve the handset's functionality.

The K770i is one of the slimmest Cyber shot camera phones available in the market, measuring in at just 106 x 47 x 14.5. With a weight of just 95g, it sits comfortably both in your hand and in your pocket. It exudes a stylish and minimalist look that comes in colour schemes of striking Ultra Violet, Truffle Brown and Sandy Beige.

Its cool-looking metallic strip keypad is large enough to provide users with convenience while typing, thus leaving no room for error. It also comes with a five-way "D-pad" navigational key which is even better and handier than K800's navigation joystick. Above the keys is a 1.9 inch TFT 262K colour screen, which supports a high resolution display of 240 x 320 pixels.

When talking about features, this handset certainly knows how to grab your attention. The K770i comes with a music player that supports MP3, MIDI, M4A, WMA, WAV, and AAC file formats. As a phone that does multi-tasking, its music player is capable of running in the background while accessing other functions. In addition to its already impressive music player, is an integrated FM radio which supports RDS and comes with 20 preset stations. It also comes with a TrackID feature which offers music recognition. The said feature records the first couple of seconds on the current track, and then provides the song title and artist information. What's more is the PlayNow feature which works as a support for music downloads.

Users normally miss incoming calls when they are in noisy surroundings, however, this is not the case for K770i. It houses a speaker loud enough for you to hear cracks when playing tracks at high volume level. Sound quality is very impressive and it sounds as good as Sony Ericsson's Walkman line of phones.

As K770i is a Cyber-shot camera phone, rest assured that it will not fall short of you expectations. It is well equipped with a 3.2 megapixel camera that comes with auto focus and LED flash features. It also comes with a night mode, panorama, self-timer, image frames, burst shooting mode, white balance control and seven scene-specific presets that users can enjoy. Its Photo fix feature can be used to edit images directly on the handset. Other than its auto focus functions, it also provides macro modes and a three times digital zoom for better photo quality. Video camera options for this mobile phone are pretty much the same with its still-camera functions. It also works as a video player and recorder, and also supports video calling and streaming. Moreover, it is equipped with a mirror that will allow users to view their own image. This is very useful especially when taking video clips.

Aside from its highly appealing user interface is a file browser that offers easy access. Picture browsing can be done in a breeze because users can choose from either list or thumbnail view options. Sony Ericsson added an interesting browser option which is the Timeline view. The said option allows sorting of images by month or exact date.

The K770i comes with a built-in 16MB internal memory and an option for a "Memory Stick Micro M2" memory card slot. Given that it can only support up to 256MB of memory space, this won't be good enough for users who are aiming for music player use.

Its organizer features includes a phonebook that stores up to 1000 entries, an alarm clock, calendar, calculator, notes, tasks, and stopwatch. It also comes with a flight mode feature which allows users to use their handset in places where mobile phones are restricted. This is because the flight mode feature disables radio receivers and transmitters that will disrupt frequency.

In conclusion, the Sony Ericsson K770i is a mobile phone which is highly functional and user-friendly. Its battery life can last up to 10 hours of talk time and 400 hours of standby time. Although its memory space isn't that much appealing, it is livened by the impressive camera and music player features. This handset is stylish and practical enough for a mid-range phone.

The Sony Ericsson K770i is an easy to use phone with video calling and web browsing capabilities. It features all the other usual extras such as MP3 player, java platform games, photo editing programmes and the excellent cybershot camera which takes pictures up to 3.2 Megapixels.

The keys are not too small and are responsive, the layout is intuitive and the camera lens design surpasses the clumsy models such as the K800. The speaker volume is good enough to be heard in a noisy park.

It has expandable memory (M2) which is great for those who wish to pack in the photos, music and games.

It came with a data cable which is very useful for synchronising with your PC and saves you buying one separately. The handsfree set included is very basic and doesn't allow you to forward/stop/control volume when using it as headphones for MP3 playback. A compatible set is available, but you have to buy it separately.
