Sony Xperia P Preview

Sony Xperia P

The Sony Xperia P is the slightly-smaller brother to the Xperia S, offering the same iconic "light up" design and a 4-inch Reality Display.

This display, Sony boasts, is powered by Mobile BRAVIA Engine and also comes with the firm's new WhiteMagic technology. This adds a 4th white sub-pixel to the high-res screen, which results in deeper colours, an ultra-bright picture and improved power efficiency. The screen will also automatically adjust depending on your surroundings, which means you can expect great visibility outdoors.

That's not all the screen has got going for it, as it comes powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor and Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) software. An update to ICS is already promised, and the handset features the most up-to-date version of Sony's custom skin, equipping it with new photo, video, and music player apps, new lock screen shortcuts and feature deep integration with the Sony Entertainment Network.

Available in Black, Silver and red flavours, the Xperia P features an 8 megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus and Exmor R sensor, which is capable of shooting HD footage. The footage can be fired to your HD television thanks to the handsets HDMI connectivity, and to your computer using Sony's new SmartDock.

Other confirmed specifications include; a VGA front-facing video call camera, 16GB of included storage (sans microSD slot), HSDPA and WiFi connectivity and noise cancellation technology.

The Sony Xperia P will be available through most UK networks in Q2 2012.
