Vodafone 845

Editor's Review of the 845

The Vodafone 845 is budget smart phone that runs on Google's Android 2.1 operating system.

One of the first things that you would notice with the Vodafone 845 is the chunky appearance. It is relatively shorter than most phones coming out now, and a little bit wider. At 99 millimetres long and 55 millimetres across, it is around 14 mm thick and close to 110 grams in weight. The 845 has two casing colours to choose from: black or white.

The monoblock candy bar mobile phone comes with a 2.8 inch touch screen display with resolutions of 240 x 320 pixels and is capable of showcasing up to 65,000 colours. It also comes with an accelerometer sensor that allows it to automatically rotate the display's orientation.

As you have come to expect with Android powered mobile phones, the Vodafone 845 comes with a wide range of Internet connectivity options such as class 10 GPRS that provides up to 48 kbps of data speed and wireless connectivity with 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi capability. For really fast data transfers, you can tap into any 3G network with HSDPA 3.6 megabytes per second connection. This comes in handy when you are accessing the best of Google's applications like Google Earth, satellite navigation, documents, mail, G-Talk and Google Goggles. You also have the option to add more applications through Google's Android Market.

But what sets the Vodafone 845 handset apart from other Google Android phones is its access to Vodafone 360. Vodafone 360 allows you to bring together all your contacts to one particular portal. You also get exclusive access to Vodafone 360 apps through its app store. Now you do not only have to rely on Google's Android market, but also get complementary apps from Vodafone. This means that your online experience is greatly enhanced and simplified. You can truly use your Vodafone 845 to connect with your friends through social media sites, through Vodafone 360 or through instant messengers!

The 845 has a 3.15 megapixel camera that can capture images with resolutions of up to 2048 by 1536 pixels. It can also capture 3GP videos. The camera comes with auto focus features and an LED flash. This allows you to get really good pictures even in low light conditions and at night. If that is not enough, you can use the pre-loaded photo and video editor to do some minor touch up to both your images and videos.

Further, the Vodafone 845 has the capability to play back multimedia files such as WAV, eAAC+, MP3 and WMA music files and H.263, H.264 and MP4 video clips. While the 845 has 512 megabytes of internal memory that is perfect for storing unlimited phone book entries and call logs, you will certainly appreciate the additional storage you can get by getting a microSD card that allows you to have up to 16 gigabytes more!

What is more, you can transfer files to and from your phone via the microUSB port. Or you could share your files with other Bluetooth-capable devices! Furthermore, you get GPS capability, enabling you to have full navigation features from Google Earth or voice-activated satellite navigation.

What makes the 845 a truly mouth-watering smart phone is the messaging capabilities it has. It allows for full e-mail support, including push e-mail. This gives you the convenience of being notified exactly when you receive an e-mail without having to check your e-mail accounts. It also has document viewers for most Microsoft Office files such as Word, PowerPoint and Excel. You can also view PDF files with this handset.

Battery juice on a single charge provides up to 3 hours and 30 minutes of talk time, more than 12 days on standby and more than 18 hours of music playback.

Perhaps, reading about Vodafone 845's features you would think that it is an expensive handset. But as mentioned earlier, this is a budget phone from Vodafone. You will be amazed at how Vodafone was able to take advantage of using the Android OS to pack in as many features as it has with the 845 and still offer the mobile phone at a very low price!
