A Preview of the ZTE Era

The Era is ZTE's debut quad-core smartphone, aiming to challenge the likes of Samsung and LG with its 1.3GHz Tegra 3 chipset. Just like the Mimosa X the Era makes use of the processor's new Icera radio chips, which should make for a long-lasting battery.

Announced at Mobile World Congress 2012, the razor-thin 7.8mm-thick Era also packs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, equipping it with the same set of features as its high-end rivals. These are easy accessible via the phone's decent-sized 4.3-inch capacitive qHD touchscreen, which comes skinned in ZTE's new MiFavor user interface. The Chinese manufacturer claims this custom UI delivers personal customisation, intuitive operation and handy onscreen gestures.

The phone manages to squeeze a host of multimedia features into its skinny chassis, too. There's an 8 megapixel camera on the rear of the phone, complete with autofocus, LED flash and 1080p HD video smarts. This comes paired with a VGA webcam, 8GB of included storage (expandable via microSD) and a built-in media player with stereo FM radio.

Other confirmed specifications include; Bluetooth 3.0, Dolby Mobile sound enhancement, HSDPA and WiFi connectivity and integrated GPS. There's also HD Voice onboard, which promises crystal-clear call quality.

The ZTE Era will make its UK debut in Q2 2012, although pricing details are still to be confirmed.
